Existing methods for reversible data hiding in ciphertext binary images only involve one data hider to perform data embedding. When the data hider is attacked, the original binary image cannot be perfectly reconstructed. To this end, this letter proposes multi-party reversible data hiding in ciphertext binary images, where multiple data hiders are involved in data embedding. In this solution, we use visual cryptography technology to encrypt a binary image into multiple ciphertext binary images, and transmit the ciphertext binary images to different data hiders. Each data hider can embed data into a ciphertext binary image and generate a marked ciphertext binary image. The original binary image is perfectly reconstructed by collecting a portion of marked ciphertext binary images from the unattacked data hiders. Compared with existing solutions, the proposed solution enhances the recoverability of the original binary image. Besides, the proposed solution maintains a stable embedding capacity for different categories of images.

Digital Twins (DT) are transforming the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) by providing virtual replicas of physical assets, enabling enhanced predictive analytics and data-driven decision-making. However, as Industry 5.0 integrates DT with generative AI technologies via APIs and tokens, security risks increase. Outdated modeling tools, coupled with vulnerabilities in resource-constrained environments, such as limited computational power and bandwidth, further compromise DT security. These constraints impede the implementation of robust security measures like encryption, authentication, and blockchain, making DT susceptible to cyber threats and fraud. This paper addresses these challenges by proposing a secure DT conceptual architecture that leverages edge-fog-cloud computing with Federated Learning (FL), and Blockchain. The framework ensures resource-efficient security by integrating privacy-preserving computations, secure data storage, and resilient communication channels. It effectively mitigates risks beyond 51% attacks, including Sybil attacks and data manipulation, while enabling secure data exchange and realtime monitoring. Furthermore, the proposed architecture improves adaptability in complex IIoT environments, supporting seamless device integration, scalability, and energy-efficient operations to safeguard industrial systems against evolving threats.

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is becoming increasingly important for companies world-wide since it allows integrating data from different areas and sectors, thus creating new opportunities to raise efficiency, flexibility, and productivity. However, IIoT also exposes companies to new risks and threats, which implies new challenges related to cybersecurity. In this context, this paper analyzes Hardware Trojan (HT) attacks also characterized by possible malicious controlled white noises on sensors working in an IIoT scenario. Through a parametric analysis in a simulation environment, the impact and the sensitivity of the hardware attacks about the electrical signal deterioration is analyzed as a function of the variation of the HT resistance and capacitance, also superposing a white noise effect to increase the signal disturbance and complexity to find possible causes. The model also includes the possibility for the attackers to modulate and switch the white noise signal in accordance with the IIoT transmission triggering. Specifically, the paper analyzes the behavior of an attacked resistive humidity sensor by means of circuit simulations. Furthermore, the paper proposes a new approach for training commonly used Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and Random Forest (RF), to predict disturbed sensor signals. Simulation results show the proposed method is effective in detecting HT attacks, thus supporting the adoption of proper corrective actions. The AI-based data processing also demonstrates that circuit simulations provide an effective solution to train AI models tailored to a digital twin HT cybersecurity framework.

The main task of the research involves creating a Digital Twin (DT) application serving as a framework for Virtual Commissioning (VC) with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Cloud storage solutions. An Internet of Things (IoT) integrated automation system with Virtual Private Network (VPN) remote control for assembly and disassembly robotic cell (A/DRC) equipped with a six-Degree of Freedom (6-DOF) ABB 120 industrial robotic manipulator (IRM) is presented in this paper. A three-dimensional (3D) virtual model is developed using Siemens NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (MCD), while the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is programmed in the Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal. A Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation strategy is primarily used. This concept is implemented and executed as part of a VC approach, where the designed PLC programs are integrated and tested against the physical controller. Closed loop control and RM inverse kinematics model are validated and tested in PLC, following HIL strategy by integrating Industry 4.0/5.0 concepts. A SCADA application is also deployed, serving as a DT operator panel for process monitoring and simulation. Cloud data collection, analysis, supervising, and synchronizing DT tasks are also integrated and explored. Additionally, it provides communication interfaces via PROFINET IO to SCADA and Human Machine Interface (HMI), and through Open Platform Communication—Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) for Siemens NX-MCD with DT virtual model. Virtual A/DRC simulations are performed using the Synchronized Timed Petri Nets (STPN) model for control strategy validation based on task planning integration and synchronization with other IoT devices. The objective is to obtain a clear and understandable representation layout of the A/DRC and to validate the DT model by comparing process dynamics and robot motion kinematics between physical and virtual replicas. Thus, following the results of the current research work, integrating digital technologies in manufacturing, like VC, IoT, and Cloud, is useful for validating and optimizing manufacturing processes, error detection, and reducing the risks before the actual physical system is built or deployed.

Polarization light microscopy (PLM) enables detailed examination of birefringent materials and reveals unique features that cannot be observed under non-polarized light. Implementation of this technique for quantitative PLM (QPLM) assessment of samples is challenging and requires specialized components and equipment. Here, we demonstrate QPLM on a semiconductor imaging chip that is suitable for point-of-care/need applications. A white LED illumination was used with crossed polarizers and a full wave plate to perform on-chip, non-contact-mode QPLM. Polarization complexity is probed by assessing the multispectral phase shift experienced by white light through the distinct optical paths of the sample. This platform can achieve micrometer-scale spatial resolution with a Field of View determined by the size of the semiconductor sensor. Visualization of a biological sample (Euglena gracilis) was demonstrated, as well as the detection of Monosodium Urate crystals, where the presence of negative birefringence of crystals in synovial fluid is important for the diagnosis of gout.

In cell culture research and biotechnology, precise pH monitoring is crucial for maintaining cellular health and ensuring reliable experimental outcomes. Traditional pH measurement methods, such as glass electrodes and chemical indicators, are often limited by issues such as fragility, calibration requirements, and potential cytotoxicity. This study presents a novel pH sensor based on bacteriorhodopsin (bR), a light-sensitive protein that undergoes conformational changes in response to pH fluctuations, generating a measurable photoelectric signal. The integrated bR-based electrochemical electrode in a flexible pH biosensor is demonstrated, with measurements spanning the physiological pH range of 6.0–8.5. The sensor shows a high correlation (R2 = 0.977) between photo-generated current signals and pH, indicating robust performance for real-time, non-invasive pH monitoring. The biocompatibility and non-invasive nature of this sensor make it particularly suitable for continuous monitoring in cell culture environments. The sensor’s practical application is validated by its integration into cell well plates for tracking the pH changes during cell growth, providing valuable insights into metabolic processes and growth conditions. In the future, efforts will focus on enhancing sensor sensitivity, stability, and integration with multi-parameter monitoring systems for more comprehensive cell culture analysis.
